PRINCETON — It was an historic afternoon for the Princeton High School softball team yesterday as for the first time in school history it beat Hopewell Valley.   The score was 12-8 with Princeton prevailing over Hopewell Valley behind three hits apiece from Deanna Boehm., Marisa Gonzalez and Angela Cao, who also knocked in three runs. Chipping in with two hits in support of winning pitcher Jenna Panconik were Louise Eisenach and Maddie Cahill.

Coupled with a 15-3 victory over New Brunswick the day before, Princeton is now 2-2 after going 3-17 all of last year.

“We’ve gotten some freshmen who have played travel ball,’’ replied Princeton coach Craig Haywood when asked to explain his team’s improved play.   “This is the year where we didn’t have the spend the first week teaching some of the girls how to throw a softball.’’
